Mindfulness in Schools

Mindfulness in Schools

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand is behind a push to bring mindfulness to schools.  This is part of a greater programme to bring mindfulness to the attention of New Zealanders as a means of bringing about positive mental health and well being.  The school programme is called Pause, Breathe, Smile and was created by Grant Rix who took part in a unique study and meditation programme that ran from early 2005 to mid 2007 at the Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre, near Nelson.

Mindful Aotearoa is currently running mindfulness programmes in schools around New Zealand.  Information for schools has been prepared in a prospectus.  It has been implemented in Te Papapa primary school in Auckland, Nawton School in Hamilton and Westmere Primary School.
